10 Reasons U Should Startup a (Glasgow PR) Company: Part 1

I started my own Glasgow PR company two months ago, after five years as head of office at Weber Shandwick Glasgow. So far it’s been a blast and for anyone considering whether to take the plunge, I say “go for it”. And if you want any advice, you’ve got my number.

Perhaps the biggest challenge is fitting everything in when you have a to do list stretching well past the 100 item mark.

With so much to achieve and only a finite amount of time, promoting your company, which, after all, someone working in the PR industry should be pretty good at, often goes by the wayside.

Falling into that category is the blog post, that perfect distillation of your views on the world, imparting your learning for the good of mankind, and trying to encourage people to go on your website of course.

I’ve done ok on this front but I’d rather be blogging every week than every few.

So, when I picked up my business cards last night, opened the box and, with a glint in my eye, looked at the contents, I felt a blog coming on. Unfortunately, right now, today, I don’t have a few hours to spend writing the perfect blog post so this is the first in a 10-part series of short posts on why you should start your own (Glasgow PR) company, albeit I’ll try to make it relevant for everyone considering going solo, whatever their industry. Hopefully it’ll encourage me to blog more too.

Reason 1: you get your own business cards, the way you want them. It’s probably not the business card itself but the fact that this means you’ve landed, it’s really happened and you really are a business. I guess you have to be there but, trust me, if you set up your own company, this will be a landmark day.

In the nick of time really as Zude PR is exhibiting (for the first time) at an environmental conference in Glasgow at the Radisson this Thursday (26 June 2014). http://bit.ly/1rtke1J. If you live in the Central Belt and are interested in all things environmental, drop by and say hello. What the heck, I’ll even shout you a free business card.
