Five places great venues to watch the Euros in style

There's no need to get swept up in the rush when taking in Europe’s favourite football tournament

It’s the Euros and that means just about everywhere is going to be wheeling out the big screens and enforcing a ‘shirts on please’ policy. If standing in a loud, crowded courtyard, getting sunburnt isn’t what you have in mind, here are five great places to take clients who prefer to spectate in comfort.

Grand Café at The Scotsman, Edinburgh

The gorgeous high ceilings, chandeliers and marbled walls of the Scotsman Hotel and Grand Cafe in Edinburgh make for an experience all of their own. Formerly the offices of the Scotsman Newspaper and perfectly situated overlooking the city centre, your surroundings make for a decidedly classy backdrop to the cut and thrust on the pitch. And you won’t be palmed off with generic pub fayre here: plates of haggis bon bons and Jura whisky-cured salmon give the menu a delightfully Scottish flavour. Whether you opt for a plush velvet balcony booth or a seat in the main dining room, this is one of the more refined places you can enjoy a match.

Smith & Wollensky, London

American steakhouse Smith and Wollensky in London’s Covent Garden is showing every England game, both on its big screens and in its exclusive private dining rooms. So you can choose between match-day atmosphere or something more private. As well as serving some of the capital’s best steaks, including bone-in rib-eye and Kansas cut sirloin, the exceptionally broad whisky menu - including American and Japanese brands - lends this venue an upmarket and business-like air.

Set in the grounds of what was formerly the Bank of Liverpool, the dramatic décor ensures that the spirit of Argentina is transported to one of Liverpool’s most historic buildings. This Grade II-listed venue also offers private dining rooms to enjoy the tournament while dining on premium cuts of Chateaubriand and sipping a Banana Pecan Old Fashioned.
