'Want to thrive in PR? Be resilient'

In this CIPR member spotlight, we hear from Carly Bannerman who is an account director at Scotland based agency 3x1. She joined the CIPR to support her professional development and the agency’s growth

What does your current role involve?
I lead strategy planning and implementation for my client portfolio ensuring alignment with client objectives and industry trends.

I act as the key day-to-day contact for my clients and work across research, media relations, digital, social media and content creation. I compile evaluation reports, using the AMEC framework to demonstrate value and successful campaign delivery.  

What do you love most about working in public relations? 

The dynamic and ever-changing nature of the industry. Each day brings new challenges and opportunities to learn about various sectors, creatively solve problems and positively influence public perception.

I enjoy building strong relationships and the satisfaction of seeing the impact of effective communication. 

What's been the highlight of your career so far? 

Becoming a chartered practitioner has been a huge highlight for me. It has bolstered my confidence in my abilities and the accreditation has strengthened the trust of my colleagues and clients. 

How long have you been a member and what made you join? 

I have been a member for five years and wanted access to industry knowledge and trends to support my professional development and the growth of 3x1.

How does the CIPR support your career?

The CIPR supports my career by providing training, development support, and accreditation opportunities. It connects me with industry professionals, enhancing my network and knowledge. The access to resources and peers helps me stay updated with best practices and leads to continuous professional growth.

Best piece of career advice you’ve been given? 

I haven’t so much been given this advice but learned it over time - build up your resilience. By being resilient, you can easily adapt to change and thrive amidst the challenges resulting in a positive outlook, ultimately creating an enjoyable working environment. Embracing resilience not only benefits individual practitioners but it’s hugely valuable to your organisation, clients and colleagues.
