‘It’s imperative to keep exploring trends and opportunities’

A seasoned comms professional with over 13 years' experience, Aishling O’Connor of Zurich Insurance uses her CIPR membership to stay ahead in this ever-evolving industry.

What does your current role involve?
It’s a 360-degree, generalist comms role that engages with key audiences for the business globally, encompassing skills like strategic comms planning, content curation, and employee engagement.

What do you love most about working in public relations?
I love the opportunity to engage with a large audience, hear their collective voice and feedback, and mobilise that feedback into something meaningful for my organisation.

What's been the highlight of your career so far?
Taking a year out to engage in full-time, third-level study to achieve a masters in marketing.

How long have you been a member and what made you join?
I’ve been a member of the CIPR since 2013. I joined because I wanted to broaden my role and expertise, and was looking for a forum that could support my career aspirations.

How does the CIPR support your career?
CIPR gives me great pride in my profession and reminds me that it’s imperative to keep exploring trends and opportunities on the horizon.

Best piece of career advice you’ve been given?
A career has many seasons, each with its own pace and demands. Take a breath and get some perspective on which season you’re in now and how to best most forward.
