What does your current role involve?
As managing director at Mackman Group, I oversee business strategy and operations for our business, and lead on marketing consultancy for our diverse clients. I also serve as chair of trustees at the Bridge Project, a charity guiding strategic initiatives for disadvantaged adults, and I hold a board position at the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
What do you love most about working in public relations?
What I love most about PR is its dynamic nature and ability to shape perceptions. It combines creativity with strategy, allowing us to craft compelling narratives and strategic campaigns that resonate with audiences. I’m very collaborative and enjoy the opportunities that PR presents to build relationships, and uphold ethical standards to foster trust and make a positive impact.
What's been the highlight of your career so far?
A career highlight has been achieving B Corp certification for Mackman Group, affirming our commitment to ethical practices and societal impact. Leading Mackman Group for two decades, we've grown while prioritising ethical business conduct, creating meaningful jobs and supporting community initiatives. This journey underscores our dedication to sustainable growth and making a positive difference.
How long have you been a member and what made you join?
While I have been working in the PR sector for over 25 years I joined relatively recently. My decision to join the CIPR in 2021 stemmed from a desire to formally engage with and contribute to the professional community that CIPR fosters. I deeply respect the longstanding contributions of existing members and recognised that joining CIPR would enhance my professional development and align me more closely with industry best practices and standards.

The CIPR supports my career through essential resources, professional development opportunities, and networking connections. Membership enhances credibility with Chartered status, while advocacy for ethical standards aligns with my commitment to professional excellence in public relations.
Best piece of career advice you’ve been given?
The best career advice I've received is to 'lead with integrity and authenticity’. This principle guides my approach in public relations and business leadership, ensuring ethical alignment in decisions and fostering trust with clients and colleagues. It's driven milestones like achieving B Corp certification and helps me as I navigate complex challenges.
