‘The CIPR network of support and friendship is invaluable’
In this week’s CIPR member spotlight, we meet a Chartered PR who loves to keep learning and making a difference to others’ lives
Name: Katie Marlow
Job title and company: Director, Little Bird Communication
Location: UK
Time in PR: 25 years
What does your current role involve?
I help leaders with internal communication, culture, change and employee experience.
What do you love most about working in public relations?
I always wanted to make a difference about how work works. Before I understood the nuances of leadership and organisational culture through my degree, I could see things could be better for most people going to work. Being able to make a difference now through my work that affects thousands of others in their work is so rewarding, and I love the work I do. It’s fascinating.
What's been the highlight of your career so far?
So many, but for me it’s been my own professional development. Creating my business, completing my internal comms diploma and getting Chartered are the big highlights in my career so far.
How long have you been a CIPR member and what made you join?
27 years – I joined as a student at Bournemouth University. I wanted to get insight and prepare for work in PR and at the time, the PR degree at Bournemouth was endorsed by the CIPR.
How does the CIPR support your career?
For me it’s all about learning and my network. It keeps me actively learning and keeping up to date, that’s a professional commitment. I’ve been able to build a network of great people who I have worked with or studied alongside and having that network of support and professional friendship has been invaluable.
