Pancakes to prosecco: six must-try restaurants for a PR breakfast

Impress your clients over a breakfast worth getting up for: these six destinations offer the perfect mix of style, substance – and truly mouthwatering menus to start your day right.

LONDON

Mount Street

A composite of three images: two omelettes, one with caviar, the other in a small pan - and a an image of the restaurant with red chairs, mosiac floor and large windows

Billing yourself as “the best breakfast in London” is certainly a boast to live up to (given all those beloved greasy spoons to choose from), but situated in Mayfair, it’s definitely one of the poshest. Mount Street Restaurant’s brekkie menu blends traditional London classics with fresh, local British produce, offering everything from a classic Full English to the more elegant likes of Oscietra caviar omelette, plus seasonal offerings, such as smoked trout Benedict or kedgeree. Start your day in grand style.

GLASGOW

Stack & Still

A composite of five photographs of different savoury and sweet pancakes with toppings including egg, bacon, black pudding, hash browns, pulled pork, strawberries, granola and blueberries

Since launching in Glasgow in 2018, Stack & Still have redefined this whole ‘pancake’ concept. Their menu boasts nearly 12 million possible pancake combinations, from BBQ Pulled Pork or Shakshuka to sweet creations such as Nutella Pretzel or ‘Death by Chocolate.’ Breakfast-wise, their Big Breakfast Stack incudes the classic smoked streaky bacon, Lorne sausage, baked beans, hash browns, sautéed mushrooms, and a fried egg; while a vegetarian twist swaps veggie sausages and grilled spiced halloumi for the bacon. Or try their smoked salmon & avocado stack, combining Scottish smoked salmon, smashed avocado, crème fraiche, pickled red onion – and a drizzle of chili oil.

EDINBURGH

Gleneagles Townhouse

An elegant destination in Edinburgh blending historic charm with modern luxury, the Gleneagles’ breakfast menu at its restaurant The Spence is just as classy, offering everything from decadent classics to healthy options. While the Townhouse breakfast features hearty Scottish staples such as Stornoway black pudding and haggis (and lighter choices such as smashed avocado on sourdough), the Spence’s Brunch Club held on the last weekend of the month involves a lavish buffet, live music, and truffle-laced eggs Benedict. Oh, and “our indulgent dessert room provides the pièce de resistance” …

So, you know what to have with your breakfast. Which includes the delicious likes of organic porridge oats (they’re big on organic here), cardamom and rose granola with Greek yoghurt, and organic scrambled eggs with tartine organic sourdough toast and O’Neill’s bacon. Alternatively, the all-day breakfast includes ‘Cilbir’ eggs, nduja sausage, and crisp onion dukkah. CARDIFF

Brook Bistro

A compilation of two images: French toast with mix berries; and a cooked breakfast of sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms, hash brown, beans, break and a glass of orange juice

Brunch rather than breakfast, but who’s complaining when the fare is so utterly comprehensive? Choose from ‘Traditional’ to ‘Veggie’ or ‘Vegan' (includes crushed avocado with fresh chilli), Spanish’ (fried chorizo, paprika-seasoned eggs, and patatas bravas), and for those with a sweet tooth: fluffy buttermilk pancakes or Belgian waffles topped with wild berry compote or maple syrup. And for those of a more decadent bent, there’s always the ‘Bottomless Prosecco Brunch’ – two courses (everything from eggs Benedict to Welsh rarebit, and chocolate brownies) accompanied by lashings of free-flowing prosecco for an hour-and-a-half…
