WELCOME

to the Autumn issue of Influence

Next month sees the launch of Sarina Wiegman’s book What It Takes. It’s hotly awaited as not only is Wiegman a phenomenal football coach but an inspiration for leaders in all sectors. She puts her success down to four factors: quality of the team and staff, hard work, connectedness and giving clarity about rules, but she is also reframing ambition, showing us all that working together towards the long-term goal (of inspiring girls to take up football) is what matters. Her dedication of her UEFA Women’s Coach of the Year award to the Spanish team was an extraordinary act of empathy and collaboration - a seismic change from the old days of ‘kick your competitor until they can’t get up.’

This issue is about changing perceptions and working towards a bigger vision - and the role that communications plays in both. Ryan Herman looks back on the fairytale that Wrexham AFC enjoyed last year, Kitty Finstad investigates the changing conversation around grief and Jon White looks at the role of reconciliation in high level decision making. Plus we delve deep into the role behavioural science plays in organisations and Emma Duke offers five tips for internal crisis comms.

I hope the issue provides food for thought.

Have a great autumn.
