Award-winning entrepreneur Sharmadean Reid’s first book, New Methods For Women

Founder of WAH Nails and Beautystack, Sharmadean Reid’s has written a self-help tome, New Methods For Women - A Manifesto for Independence, to empowering women in their careers

Wolverhampton-born entrepreneur, writer and creative consultant Sharmadean Reid founded WAH Nails and Beautystack, before launching Stack World, a global media and community platform to empower women at work. She was the first Black woman in the UK to receive over £1m in venture capital funding and through Stack World, she works to support thousands of women on how to grow their economic independence - and has herself grown a huge social media following. An advocate for female empowerment and a founding member of the British Beauty Council, she is also an ambassador for Futuregirlcorp, a business bootcamp for female entrepreneurs.

Reid is now on a mission to share what she’s learned from her 20 years as a high profile business woman with her new book New Methods For Women - A Manifesto for Independence, a collection of essays to give women the tools to thrive and succeed in life and at work.

Very much a book outlining her personal philosophy, she engagingly utilises her previous experiences as a journalist - she wrote the business advice column Bossing It for The Guardian in 2018 - to detail 49 empowering methods for women to boost their relationships, creativity, careers and community.

Drawing on her experiences as an entrepreneur, business-owner and parent, she reveals her secret formula for lifting up yourself  – and the women around you – based on her own successes, to help any woman in the workplace achieve their goals.

Reid, who was awarded an MBE in the 2015 Queen's Birthday Honours for her services to the nail and beauty industry, is passionate about women living a more purposeful and empowered life. This book contains a host of fascinating tips about finding meaning and success at work, and how being creative and achieving personal growth can help you nail it.

She’s learned through the school of hard knocks too. Outwardly, as she explains in the book, she appeared to have it all – a string of successful business ventures, an adorable son and a stack of awards. But, secretly, she was crumbling and in desperate need of change. After trying every wellness practice and reading myriad personal development books, it wasn’t until she woke on the morning of her 39th birthday that she finally felt contentment. The book aims to share with women everywhere all the methods helped her get to that happy place.

Reid outlines her personal philosophies, interwoven with other ideas from a diverse range of thinkers who have informed her approach. She believes that although there are countless books that tell women how to navigate the system as it is, what women really need is to change the system to empower and support them: this book gives you the tools to do just that.

Personal and honest, this inspiring book contains myriad lessons that can be easily amplified by any woman working in the communications sector. Empowering, kind and powerful, this is a book to devour over the summer and then keep by your bed and dip into time and again.

Sharmadean Reid is a founder, author and creative consultant who recently launched media company Stack World, which aims to connect and amplify the careers of mission-driven women.
