In this edition of our CIPR member spotlight we head to Uganda to meet a public relations professional working in the oil industry.

What does your current role involve?
My role involves communication strategy development, supervision and implementation. This includes team management, government relations, crisis management and communication, media relations and advisory, and content. Other parts of my role are development, brand management, communication material development, media engagement, digital and social media management, sponsorship management, events management and stakeholder relations.
What do you love most about working in public relations?
I love the exposure and countless networking opportunities it presents. It provides continuous opportunities for development of problem-solving skills. Public relations requires adaptability and creativity which motivates me to stay the course of continuous learning.
What's been the highlight of your career so far?
My career highlight has been playing an instrumental role in shaping TotalEnergies EP Uganda's public image and stakeholder engagement.
In my various roles, I have developed a strategic acumen that has led to the successful management of communication budgets and execution of strategic engagements aimed at progressing the Uganda oil project.
I have also practised effective issues management and implementation of influential award-winning awareness campaigns, leadership in rebranding initiatives, execution of communication strategies for major projects, and elevation of the company's digital and social media presence.
How long have you been a CIPR member?
I have been a member of CIPR for two years.
How does the CIPR support your career?
It supports me through the continuous professional development opportunities available to members which keep my skills and competencies up to date with latest industry practices, tactics and tools. There are also numerous opportunities for members to network and share knowledge as well.
What’s the best piece of career advice you’ve been given?
There are two: It always seems impossible until its done; and try and fail but never fail to try.
